The Super Bowl XLVII 2013 has commenced! It was on in the early hours of the morning in the UK and for the first time in my life, I stayed awake to watch the Baltimore Ravens vs San Francisco 49ers. In the UK, we are currently involved in watching Rugby 6 Nations– which is the closest most of us Brits get to American Football.
I must admit, I am not a follower of American Football- but the buzz is electric and I can completely understand all the hype and ecstasy surrounding it as well as the opening ceremony!
I might be wrong, but I am sure more people around the world including the UK, tuned in to see the talent that was to perform to start off this years Super Bowls game which included an all African-American Female Line up of women who are on top of their game now: Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson and the Destiny’s Child aka Beyonce’s Child!
There has been a lot of talk of Kelly and Michelle’s mic’s not being turned up during their performance (or assistance!) and Beyoncé stealing the lime light, but to be fair, it was a Beyoncé show and she is the main person that everyone wants to see! I cannot imagine Destiny’s Child would have the success they have had if it wasnt for the brains and push behind the group who is none other than Mrs Carter herself.
Kelly Rowland has broke out of the Bey shadow and is doing her thing which I think is great. She looks much better and has her own style. I actually prefer her as a solo-singer. She gets a bit lost in the group I think as does Michelle. Michelle is also shining star in her own right as a successful Gospel singer. I guess everyone loves female groups and the combination of girls, whether they are all lead singers or not, is what adds to their appeal. Beyoncé definitely shut it down in her solo and group performances as she always does. I dont think anyone expected anything less, so to many people, her performance was far from a surprise, but more like ‘another top job done’.
I respect Beyoncé for the message she wrote to her salute her fellow Black women who gave great performances on the night and I’m happy that this quote was picked up positively in the media which I’m sure inspired a myriad of women from all around the world.
“What a proud day for AFRICAN AMERICAN women!!!! You are all beautiful, talented and showed so much class! It was an honor to perform at the Super Bowl with you phenomenal ladies. Love Beyoncé.”
It is good to see Alicia Keys rocking the short crop as well as she does. It really enhances her features.
Jennifer Hudson does well and looks so elegant as she performed with the Sandy Hook children’s choir. I’m glad she is not one of those women that lose weight and balloon right back up in few months. She looks healthy and I hope that with all the sadness she has suffered in the past, she will move on each year, to bigger and better things as her performance at the Super Bowl 2013 mirrored.
